Am so happy that I’m finally on my 2-weeks bento break after a whopping 50 sets of party bentos to pack on Sun! Yes, 50! Due to all the exams etc, we had to push Zo & Baby Jo’s birthday party until last Sun. It’s just a small party as hubby said cannot spoil them by throwing big bash every year wor. True also la, we must count our blessings of what God had blessed us and not simply spend unnecessarily right?
I had thought of having cupcakes instead for this year as mainly there will be a lot of young children involved. Just avoid the hassle of cutting the cake, serving them on paper plates (oh yes, can save the environment for not having the paper plates too), bits and pieces dropping all over etc. I do not have a maid (I’m the “kakak” ok?!) to help me clean up after the kids. So having cupcakes is definitely a better idea. The children could even bring the cupcake home if they do not want to eat it there.
My initial plan was to ask for this bento pal whom happens to be a brilliant cupcake baker to help me with the cakes. But then, by the time we could have the party, she is (and still is) already holidaying with her family in USA. Then she recommended me one of her son’s classmate dad whom also is a very talented baker. But alas! He said he had stopped making cupcakes for more than a year already…. What to do ar? Who ask this mummy is a lousy baker wor. So had to quickly get to the Internet and search lo. Finally I found this home based bakery which is near to my workplace. I have not seen any of his works nor any testimonial. So I guess I have no choice but to take the risk as the girls party is just days away. We just communicated through emails on the designs etc and he (yes, it’s a he, an uncle) told me that he does not have the tools to make the designs I wanted. Then I recalled I bought some Princess icing sheets from a baking supplies shop by recommendation of another bento pal during my last Christmas trip there. It’s just the perfect timing to put them into good use! Not just this, initially I had wanted to make some tuna toasted bread pies for the bentos but I later found out this baker also made good pastries which was highly recommended by many customers. So I just ordered some mini eclairs and cream puffs for the bentos and everything turned out to be so AWESOME until I think this baker is heaven sent! LOL!
All the kids & teachers were so happy and impressed with the cakes and bentos (which mummy packed till almost 2am on Sat night/Sun morning) ahem!). And most of all, the birthday girls had a great time as well. Here are some pictures of the cuppies and food for the party to share.
